What’s New and What’s Next – NeoCon 2017

The TurnerBatson designers attended NeoCon 2017 — one of the most recognized and popular trade shows in the commercial interior design industry. The event hosted more than 50,000 design professionals at The Mart in Chicago to showcase what’s new and what’s next in the interior design industry.

Here are some trends:

“Resimercial” – Probably the biggest trend inside of showrooms were residential inspired work spaces in the everyday office. This allows your office to become your home away from home. The style in both residential and commercial design is mid-century modern inspired furnishings and color palettes.

Health & Wellness – An emphasis on maintaining an active and healthy lifestyle at work was showcased. Examples are sit-stand work stations, conference tables that double as ping pong tables, materials with anti-microbial properties and biophilic inspired designs.

Flexibility & Quiet Spaces - Many showrooms offered new acoustical furnishings for private meetings without having to construct a private office or conference room. This also allows for flexible spaces or “zones” that can be used for multiple purposes.

Technology – Integrating technology such as virtual reality with smart furnishings are a strong trend. Desks that can track movements, conference tables that wirelessly charge phones and fully integrated work stations are selling well in today’s market.

Retro Colors – There was a retro theme with colors this year. Themes included aubergine and black mixed with soft pastel pinks and greens; and oranges mixed with metallic golds and coppers. Deep purple and blush seemed to be the most popular showroom colors.
