Team Builders: Hal Bishop

Around the office, Hal is known for his off-pitch “surprise” birthday songs that are intended to startle the recipient. He’s known to crawl on his knees or slither against the wall to get the best reaction. This is just one of the ways he shares his slightly quirky sense of humor with our work family. He’s a talented, compassionate architect with a focus on details. Some other little-known facts about Hal may interest you:

1. What are the top 3 most used apps on your phone?

Facebook, the Olive Tree Bible app and World of Tank Blitz.

2. If you could travel anywhere, where would you go and why?

Greece – I would love to see the blue colors of the sea against the white of the buildings. It looks like a place that you could really relax.

3. What would your autobiography be called?

“Wanted to be a Famous Architect … Settled for Architect.”

4. Tell us something about our company.

I love being in an environment that focuses on positive motivation. TURNERBATSON is family. I love everyone here, and it’s always been like that. They are all good folks.

5. What does family mean to you?

The most important things in my life besides Jesus Christ are my wife Suzan and our two boys Tommy and Pearce. Spending time with them is my greatest pleasure.

6. What is a skill you'd like to learn and why?

Sword Fighting – I’ve always been into fantasy and medieval drama, then my boys got into it. I think it would be really cool to learn how to do it, but for now – I get Tommy and Pearce a new sword or shield every year for their birthdays.

7. Tell us a cool fact about yourself

I play clarinet in my church orchestra.

8. Why did you choose this profession?

As a child, I always loved drawing and sketching pictures, then decided to take a mechanical drafting class in high school. When I started college, I knew that I wanted to study something in the design field, so I started looking through the curriculum list starting at “A,” and Architecture caught my eye.

9. What magazines and books have you read recently?

Right now, I’m reading a book about Martin Luther. I also enjoy faith-based, fictional authors like Ted Dekker, Matthew Christian Harding and Joel Rosenburg.

10. What is your favorite building (any building ever)? What is your favorite TURNERBATSON building?

I like the architecture of Antoni Gaudi – his work is so organic. My favorite building of his is the Sagrada Família in Barcelona, Spain.

My favorite TURNERBATSON building of all time would have to be The Chapel at CrossPoint. It wasn’t just the building, but the people I worked with there. The relationships I developed during that project greatly affected my life in many ways, including my faith.
