Trinity United Methodist Church
TURNERBATSON has served as this Birmingham-area church's architect since the early 1960's. Forty years later, the firm was selected to design this 35,000-square-foot addition and major renovation of 50,000 square feet.
The colors and finishes of the education addition were designed to create a seamless flow with the existing facilities. Additionally, it was essential that the addition blend well with the neighboring residences surrounding the church property rather than overwhelm them.
The first level of the addition is devoted to the children's program and includes a large gathering space, additional classrooms, two playgrounds, and low windows to allow children to easily see outdoors.
The second level houses the youth and includes a cafe, a game room, classrooms, and a central meeting area for the entire group. The structure and circulation were designed to accommodate a third level to meet the future needs of the education program.
