TURNERBATSON recently joined The Foundry Ministries to celebrate a “Clearing the Way” groundbreaking for the new 30,000 SF Bessemer Men’s Dorm. TURNERBATSON project team members Dave Reese and Michael Goswick participated in the ceremony. “This event marked a day of demolition and celebration,” said Foundry CEO Micah Andrews. “We are clearing what’s broken and making way for something positive, fresh, and new for the men at The Foundry’s Bessemer Campus.”
The event was featured on ABC 33/40 showcasing what the building will mean for the residents of this new building:
“The nonprofit officially launched construction on a new men’s dormitory, the first phase of a long-term master plan to expand addiction recovery services and replace aging facilities on its Bessemer campus.
CEO Micah Andrews said the new dorm will add about 20 beds to their existing capacity, allowing The Foundry to serve more men throughout the year as participants complete the residential recovery program.
‘This new dorm gives us the opportunity to say yes,’ Andrews said. ‘When we get a phone call from someone needing recovery services, we never want to be in a position to say we can’t help you.’
The Foundry has offered addiction recovery services since the mid-1990s. Andrews said the need for those services remains strong across Alabama, even as some overdose statistics have improved. The organization hopes the expansion will make it possible for more people to get help when they’re ready to seek it.
Founded in 1971, The Foundry says it has served more than 43,000 men and women through its ministries over the past five decades. Wednesday’s project is the first of three planned phases that also include improvements to the organization’s North Birmingham campus and its Cullman farm.”
“It is a privilege to get the chance to design a building that better reflects the quality of care these men receive,” said TURNERBATSON President Dave Reese. “They’ve been doing a lot with a little for a long time. Imagine what they will be able to do with this new ministry environment!”
