Fulfilling its pledge to serve the growing Clay-Chalkville population, Jefferson County’s Board of Education (JEFCOED) saw an opportunity for a new elementary school in the Grayson Valley area. JEFCOED hired TURNERBATSON to be the architect of record for the all new, 700 student Bryant Park Elementary School.
The new 86,675 square-foot building is located near Bryant Park off of Old Springville Road. It contains a gym, cafeteria, media center, offices, and three classroom wings. The modern design incorporates vibrant colors and natural lighting bringing a vitality to the building that can be easily identified through an engaging learning environment.
Wayfinding and security are key components in the new design. Bright colors identify primary areas within the building. Controlled points of entry, strong sight lines, and a secure play area are located in between the classroom wings. Its position on the new site allows for parking, queuing space, and efficient traffic flow. A tornado shelter to house the faculty and students is also included in the innovative design.
Construction was completed in time for the fall semester of 2020.
