Downtown Trussville Entertainment District

As part of its 15-year relationship with the City of Trussville, TURNERBATSON partnered with the Trussville Downtown Redevelopment Authority to imagine and implement a walkable entertainment district consisting of more than 10 projects. The city envisioned this new and improved “downtown” area to be both an economic engine and a desirable location for community events and social gatherings. The new plan attracts and revitalizes downtown business, provides safe parking and walkability for residents, upgrades the appearance of the downtown buildings and streetscape, and allows for improved vehicular access.

The first phase of the redevelopment centers on an area was known as “Quad One,” or the “Entertainment District.” With the help of developer Coby Lake and the city, TURNERBATSON designed Ferus Artisan Ales, Mexicali Blues, Pinchgut Pies, and an outdoor Stage and open pavilion

A 27-foot wide LED video wall allows the stage to be used year-round for family movie nights, concert simulcasts, and sports events. The stage also hosts city events and large concert performances for up to 2,500 attendees. The covered pavilion at the center of event space references Trussville’s historic train depot and provides a shaded area for community events and outdoor covered dining. Large fans have been installed to keep the area under the pavilion cool during the summer months.

With traffic flow and parking a strong focus, developers created a four-quadrant loop and new traffic signals creating a better access to Highway 11, allowing for enhanced timing and safety. The entertainment district also provides more than 325 parking spaces within Morrow Avenue and Beech Street.

Subsequent phases including the East and West Buildings  provide mixed-use retail space, lofts, and offices. Trussville’s Main Street also underwent a streetscape improvement including a pocket park in Braden’s Plaza.
