Highlands College’s “The View” is a student-focused fine dining venue on the top floor of the main campus building. The View was designed as a living laboratory for students to be practically trained and equipped in life skills, interpersonal communication, and proper table and dining etiquette. They partake in a beautiful meal in the process.
This vision transformed 5,289 square feet of the main campus building into a fine dining, immersive experience. Located on the top floor, the restaurant provides patrons panoramic views of Highway 280 and the campus green. While colorful vistas surround the restaurant, the interior palette is grounded in warm neutrals, mixed metals, and wood tones from floor to ceiling.
Charcoal-colored wallcovering adorns the walls in two lounge areas to set a more relaxed mood. Sumptuous fabrics varying in pattern, color, and texture add contrast to the crisp white table linens. Ring-shaped pendants and semicircular seating recreate symbolic elements found throughout the college, reminding us that God is eternal and never-ending.
The space is intentionally divided into zones, each tailored to different dining experiences. The 25-foot-long custom banquette was used as the anchor point, creating circulation for the wait staff and dividing the main dining area from the two semi-private booths and four tops along the perimeter window wall.
The open kitchen allows students to watch the artistry that goes into every culinary creation while maintaining a high energy level for the kitchen staff.
Behind divisible glass doors, a private dining area for up to 14 individuals showcases large-format porcelain tile, a framed TV, a double-sided fireplace, and a custom-designed Cityscape pendant over the dining table.
Traditional herringbone pattern flooring was used throughout the space to unify the private and main dining areas. It inspired the design of the wood privacy screens and the patterned window film at private dining.
