This landmark church in downtown Trussville desired a more friendly, inviting appearance to attract visitors. The project consisted of a new main entrance and entry drive, a preschool wing, indoor and outdoor playgrounds, offices, and other accessory spaces. To create a warm, welcoming space, TURNERBATSON used high ceilings, large gathering spaces, a prominent check-in desk, different colors and materials, and signage to make the process of entrance easy and inviting.
A new, 51,000-square-foot addition was designed to include an inviting welcome center, a children’s building, and improved access to the existing complex. Seating 1,850, the sanctuary was redesigned with cutting-edge technology as well as orchestra and stage redesigns. The final phase was an open and attractive youth space with classrooms, hang-out areas, a game room, and a new worship area equipped with acoustical clouds and high-touch A/V components.
Vivid colors, playful environments, and security are all important components to consider when designing a preschool building. At FBC Trussville, the rooms and corridors are colorful and easily identifiable, and children have access to playgrounds both outside and inside. However, for safety purposes, all of these components are accessed through a central check-in station off the main entrance with a card reader system at the main door.
Planning for the future, the second floor was “shelled-in” space to be completed as the church grows and the need presents itself. It is has been recently designated to become the Children’s Department.
Through the scope of these renovations, FBC Trussville has been able to continue meeting its main goal: serving its families with excellence.
