As The University of Alabama’s Capstone College of Nursing outgrew its space in Russell Hall, university officials decided to relocate the curriculum to a new facility at the intersection of University Boulevard and McFarland Drive — the gateway to the campus. The exterior design of the front of the building features red brick, limestone and glass to reinforce the traditional architecture of the campus. An angled layout creates a courtyard area toward the back of the building.
The first floor of this state-of-the-art teaching facility houses an 150-seat auditorium, two 100-seat tiered classrooms, and two 88-seat flat-floored classrooms. The second floor includes a 35-bed clinical lab, an 88-seat classroom, and a Learning Resource Center. Various faculty offices, administrative areas, and research departments are located on the third floor.
Ten years after designing the original facility, TURNERBATSON is now developing plans for a 30,000 square foot addition scheduled to be complete in the spring of 2021.
