TURNERBATSON is leading the design and construction administration of the all-new LaGrange Residence Hall at the University of North Alabama. Scheduled to be completed in 2026, the seven-story complex will be home to approximately 190 students.
The 54,000+/- GSF facility will include double-occupancy rooms and large living rooms/studies on each floor. Each room will have a private bathroom including a toilet, shower, and lavatory. In addition, the interior will feature an ICC-500 rated storm shelter, laundry facilities, an apartment for the resident director, and a campus convenience store.
The ground level meets several differing programming needs for both the building and the surrounding campus. The main entry provides access to the storm shelter, shared amenities, and the C-Store.
Adjacent to the main entry will be an exterior plaza connecting the Residence Hall to adjacent buildings on campus. The plaza will provide a welcoming and energizing atmosphere for students to congregate. It will feature ample patio seating, a fire pit, planters, and a green space.
The building is located near the footprint of the original LaGrange Hall, which had been vacant for years and was demolished as a part of this campus development.
The exterior of the building is designed to complement historic campus architecture while being sensitive to the scale of the campus. Exterior materials will be composed of natural stone (matching the adjacent pedestrian bridge), precast stone and brick veneer, aluminum windows, and a shingled mansard roof.
Development of the area will improve pedestrian student access to all areas of the campus with new stairs, sidewalks, and connection to the nearby parking deck.
